Where a drain field is hardest to site
The USDA rates every mapped parcel in the country for its suitability as a septic drain field. We publish that rating on 280 of our city pages. These are places where effectively all the rated ground comes back "Very limited", and each one fails for a different reason.

How a company is scored
100 points, six checks, published in full. A company cannot raise its score by telling us something. Only by a record we can read ourselves.

A perfect score means every check resolved. It does not mean the work is good. We have never been to a job site.
A low score usually means a company keeps little public information, which is a different thing from doing bad work. Every page says which.

11 of the 50 states publish a septic licence roster we can check against. In the rest a company's licence reads as unverified, and that is a gap in the public record rather than a mark against the company.
We also hold records for Puerto Rico and District of Columbia, which are not states and are not counted in the 50. They have pages because the companies in them are real.

Four things worth asking
Ask for the licence number
Not "are you licensed". The number, and the name it is held under. That is what a state roster can be checked against, and it is what we match on here.
Ask who pumps and who installs
They are often different licences and sometimes different companies. A pumper is not automatically certified to replace a failed drain field.
Ask what the county requires
Septic permitting is county-level almost everywhere. A contractor who works your county weekly will know its rules without looking them up.
Get the tank located before you dig
An honest quote for a repair starts with finding the tank and the field. A price given over the phone with no site visit is a guess.
What this register does not claim
It is not a rating of workmanship
The score counts records. A record cannot tell you whether a crew showed up on time or cleaned up after itself.
It is not complete
A company with no website, no reviews and no licence on file may still be the best one in the county. It will score poorly here and we will show you why.
Nothing here is pay to appear
No company paid to be listed and none can pay to rank higher. Claiming a listing is free and does not raise a score.
