A register, not a lead broker
The Septic Register lists 14,094 septic companies across 52 states. Every one of them was found in public data. None of them paid to be here.
Why this exists
Most directories in this trade are lead brokers. You type in a postcode, they sell your details to whoever is paying that week, and the ranking is the invoice. That model has an obvious problem for a homeowner with sewage in the yard: the order tells you nothing about the companies.
This register does the opposite thing. It starts from public records, checks what can be checked, and publishes the result including when the result is unflattering. A company that fails a check keeps its page, and the page says it failed.
Where the data comes from
Business names, locations, ratings and hours come from our own scrapes of public listings. Licences come from state registries, which are public record. Soil suitability comes from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Population and climate figures come from the Census Bureau and Open-Meteo. Every one of those is free and public, and every fact on a page carries the source and the date it was read.
We have 17 registers on file covering 11 states. Where a state publishes no septic roster, the licence check reads as unverified and the page says which state and why. That is a gap in the public record and not a mark against the company.
What we do not do
We do not sell leads. We do not take a fee for placement in the ranked list. We have never visited a job site, so nothing here is a judgment about workmanship. And we do not accept a company's own word for anything that earns points: if we cannot read it in a record ourselves, it does not count.
Getting something corrected
If a page about your business is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Claiming a listing is free and does not raise your score. Contact us.
